WHAT IS COSMETIC TATTOOING?
Cosmetic tattooing is also known as micro-pigmentation or semi-permanent makeup. It consists of pigment being inserted below the top layer of the dermis with sterile micro needles to mimic hair strokes or makeup which enhance the features of the face.
WHAT IS FEATHER BROWS?
Feather-touch brows involves a process using a metal hand-tool with a cluster of fine needles, which is used to implant pigment into the skin to create life-like hair strokes and natural-looking eyebrows. Compared to a tattoo gun this technique is a more delicate process allowing us to create finer strokes to blend in with your hair. Feathering is not the best technique for people with oily skin (as feather strokes tend to fade quicker on people with this skin type) or older ladies with thin skin/fine lines or wrinkles through their eyebrows (as the strokes can blur under the skin).
WHAT IS POWDER/ OMBRÉ BROWS?
Powder/ Ombré brows use a traditional tattoo gun which is used to shade in the eyebrows. This technique starts off stronger and more defined when the tattoo is fresh but heals to leave a soft powder finish. This technique is great for all skin types, especially people with oily skin or older ladies with thin skin/fine lines or wrinkles through their eyebrows.
WHAT AGE DO I HAVE TO BE TO GET A COSMETIC TATTOO?
You must be 18 years of age to get a cosmetic tattoo at La Sculpt Beauty.
COSMETIC TATTOOING IS NOT SUITABLE FOR THE FOLLOWING –
- Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers
- Chemotherapy patient
- Keratosis
- Diabetics
- Seborrhoea Dermatitis
- Extremely Sensitive Skin
- Excessive Sebum (very oily skin)
- Sunburnt Skin
- Skin that has recently had any sort of laser / cosmetic treatments.
- If you are under 18 years of age.
HOW LONG DOES THE TREATMENT TAKE?
A consultation takes place before the treatment (on the same day or separate if requested). This covers the treatment in depth, your desired/recommended shape, pigment colour and aftercare instructions.
- Initial appointment: 2.5 hours (including the consultation and numbing time).
- Perfecting touch up: 1-2 hours (this may only take 1 hour, however i allow extra time)
- Annual Re-touch: 2 hours
COULD I HAVE A REACTION TO THE PIGMENT?
Allergic reactions are extremely rare.
The pigment brands used are trusted US made brands. Most of the pigments contain titanium dioxide, which is not a concern, because all of the colors are balanced, which is unlikely to cause a reaction. If an allergic reaction happens it can either show after 2 weeks. If you are concerned or a highly allergic individual a patch test may be arranged upon request, which will be an out of pocket $50.
BEFORE YOUR TATTOO APPOINTMENT?
BROWS – If you would like a desired shape/ colour, come with your brows drawn on and please bring your eyebrow make up with you.
LIPS – If you are prone to cold sores, it is best to take an antiviral tablet to help prevent a break out and please bring your lip make up with you if you like a specific colour, but DO NOT wear makeup to your appointment.
EYELINER – If you have eyelash enhancements, these need to be removed before the treatment and please bring your eyeliner make up with you if you like a specific colour, but DO NOT wear makeup to your appointment.
IS IT PAINFUL?
Anesthetics are used to numb the treatment area before and during the procedure. Some clients may experience slight discomfort, which more topical anesthetic can be applied. Most people describe it as a scratching feeling or they can not feel anything apart from some pressure, which this depends on your pain threshold.
AFTER YOUR TREATMENT?
BROWS – You will find that your brows will appear darker, larger and more defined on your face once your treatment is finished. The morning after your treatment your brows will have oxidised further and your brows may feel alittle tender, this is normal and will subside. Your colour may fade 30-50% and your strokes will soften 7-10 days after your treatment. Minimal swelling is expected, with redness occurring on very sensitive skin types, however you may take an antihistamine to help reduce any inflammation.
LIPS – Immediately after your treatment your lips will appear swollen and feel alittle tender, this is normal and may take 24-48 hours to subside. Your lips will appear a rich, brighter/ deep colour, however it will fade at least 50% during the healing process.
EYELINER – Immediately after your treatment your eyes will appear swollen and feel alittle tender, this is normal and may take 24-48 hours to subside. Your eyeliner will appear a rich, brighter/ deep colour, however it will fade at least 50% during the healing process.
DURING THE HEALING PROCESS?
BROWS – You will find that your brows will get alittle flaky during the healing process, which will fall off 5-7 days. They may also appear patchy and some colour may drop out. Not to worry as your touchup will perfect your brows again.
LIPS – You will find that your lips will get alittle flaky during the healing process, which the lips healing time is quicker than of the brows of upto 5 days. If you are prone to cold sores, please be aware the healing time will take longer.
WHAT DO I DO AFTER MY TREATMENT?
There are detailed aftercare instructions given to you on the day, however some to keep into consideration are below. It is advisable to strictly adhere to these guidelines to achieve best results.
- Please be advised you cannot exercise or use swimming pools, saunas or spas for 7 days post treatment
- You cannot wear makeup on, or too close to the treated area for 10-14 days post treatment
- Apply your after care cream morning and night
- You must avoid alcohol and any form of caffeine, as well as blood thinning supplements for 48 hours post treatment
- You must not pick any flaky bits off, this will affect the results of the healing process and take out colour
IS THERE A RISK OF INFECTION?
There is a minimal risk of infection as strict hygiene standards are maintained. ALL needles are for individual use ONOLY and are in sterile sealed packets and are disposed of imminently after treatment. After your treatment i will instruct and provide to you an aftercare program, which i strictly adhere to to minimise any rick of infections. YOU MUST follow these guidelines. HOW LONG DOES COSMETIC TATTOOING LAST?
FEATHERED BROWS (microbladed) eyebrows may last upto 9-18 months. Most clients like to return yearly for colour boost, however each client will be different. As i use a semi-permanent pigment which is metabolised by the body. Pigment can also faded rapidly by sun exposure, tinting eyebrows, skin care (Retinol, Glycolics, AHA’s) and skin treatments (microdermabrasion, laser, peels, Vitamin infusions) used close to or over the treated area.
POWDER/ OMBRÉ BROWS may last upto 12-24 months. The pigment is placed using a different technique, which allows it to last longer. It is a great option for those who cannot hold feathering, have lax skin, or very oily skin types.
EYELINER / LIP treatment may last upto 2-5 years.
COLOUR BOOST SESSIONS are HIGHLY recommended to keep your cosmetic tattoo looking fresh.
WHAT WILL MY COSMETIC TATTOO LOOK LIKE IN THE FUTURE?
I use high quality, stable pigments which stay true to colour in most skins. However, there are some who will experience a colour shift to a different tone during fading. Many factors affect these changes which are internal (iron deficiency, metabolic breakdown) as well as sun exposure without protection.
COLOUR BOOST SESSIONS are HIGHLY recommended to keep your cosmetic tattoo looking fresh every 12 months.
IS THERE LONGTERM AFTERCARE?
Yes, a good sunscreen should be applied to the treated area AFTER healing (2 weeks). This should be done at any time you will be in the sun so as to avoid the rapid fading of your cosmetic tattoo, as well as help keep the colour of your tattoo true.
HOW WILL THIS AFFECT MY BOTOX?
I would recommend you to book your botox appointment at least 7-10 days before your initial brow tattooing appointment. This will assist with symmetry and skins firmness.
