FAQ | Skin Needling

THE VERY BEST IN SKIN NEEDLING COLLAGEN INDUCTION TECHNOLOGY!

Skin needling is a skincare treatment aimed at improving appearance, texture, and overall quality by boosting collagen and elastin production using a skin needling pen. A skin needling pen is a tool that creates minuscule punctures on the dermal layer of the skin which then triggers a series of reactions that leads to high collagen and elastin production.

Skin Needling may help address many skin-related complaints, including:

  • fine lines & wrinkles
  • scarring
  • acne
  • alopecia
  • skin pigmentation issues
  • stretch marks
  • rosacea
  • loose skin, such as after weight loss or liposuction
  • skin rejuvenation

UNDER THE EYES

Rejuvenate tired, thin under eye skin. Reduce dark circles. Treat fine lines and wrinkles.

FINE LINES & WRINKLES

Smooth fine lines and wrinkles by stimulating natural collagen production. This is a longer term more permanent option than botulinum toxin injections.

SCARING

Significantly improve the appearance of scarring. All forms of scarring treated including:

  • Surgical scars/C-section scars
  • self harm scars

ENLARGED PORES

Shrink enlarged pores. Erase blackheads with targeted skin needling treatments.

PIGMENTATION

Enhance tone, texture and erase pigmentation. Skin needling is the best treatment for smoothing pigmentation, whilst stimulating collagen and skin renewal.

HOW DOES SKIN NEEDLING WORK?

  • Skin needling increases the production of collagen and other healing factors by causing trauma to the skin.
  • Collagen is an essential protein that helps keep the skin looking youthful, with a firm, smooth, and stretchy texture.
  • Ageing causes the decline of collagen in the skin, contributing to wrinkles and other signs of ageing.
  • Skin can also lose collagen due to injuries, such as acne scarring, stretch marks, or other scars.
  • It is important to realise that skin needling is not a quick fix, as it involves the growth of new skin. It can take several months for a person to see the full results of the procedure.
  • After a few sessions of Dermapen treatment, you will notice significant improvements in overall skin condition.

WHAT SHOULD I AVOID ON MY SKIN AFTER THE TREATMENT?

AHAs (glycolic Acid), retinol, acidic or active ingredients should not be used for two to three days after treatment to allow for maximum healing. Sun exposure is not recommended and sunscreen is encouraged.

WHAT WILL I LOOK LIKE AFTER THE TREATMENT?

Most people will notice redness and mild swelling similar to slight sunburn for 24-48 hours and there may be slight pinpoint bleeding and/or bruising. Skin will be noticeably smoother and more radiant within a week or two. Full results will take a few months to appear.

WHAT WILL I LOOK LIKE AFTER THE TREATMENT?

The primary risk is skin irritation after the procedure. Other side effects could include:

  • Swelling
  • Discomfort at the site
  • Redness
  • Bruising
  • Dryness
  • Flaking of the skin
  • Bleeding may occur after a deeper treatment or bleeding disorders or who are taking blood-thinning medications

WHAT WILL I LOOK LIKE AFTER THE TREATMENT – MORE SERIOUS RISK?

The medical community generally considers microneedling to be safe and effective, but there are still some serious risks.

  • Infection
  • Skin pigment changes
  • Reaction to topical medications used during treatment (i prefer to not use a numbing cream as this will reduce healing process and may even burn the skin)

HOW MANY TREATMENTS DO I NEED AND HOW OFTEN CAN SKIN NEEDLING PROCEDURES BE REPEATED?

Every clients skin condition will be determined on the number of treatments required. I will be working out a personalised treatment plan to reach your desired result.

Microneedling can be safely repeated every four to six weeks as needed. Collagen induction requires at least three treatments, while scar reduction requires between three and six. Four to six weeks should pass between one treatment and the next. Usually results begin to appear after the first treatment.

WHERE CAN I GET MICROEEDLING DONE?

  • Face
  • Neck
  • Decollotage
  • Arms
  • Chest/Tummy
  • Back
  • Legs

Please feel free to contact me if you have a area you would like to discuss further.

WHO IS NOT A CANDIDATE FOR SKIN NEEDLING?

Some people are not candidates for microneedling treatment, including those with:

  • an active skin infection
  • active acne
  • keloid scarring
  • an unstable skin type
  • breastfeeding
  • pregmant

Seeing a dermatologist or medical skin care professional who is experienced in these types of procedures will help minimize the risks.

SCARRING REDUCTION

Dermapen 4 is the only Skin Needling device with a dedicated scar setting and protocols for revision of deep, atrophic scars; including surgical, burn contracture, striae and post-acne scars. Needle penetration can now be increased up to 3.0mm. AOVN technology, automatically calibrates the motor speed, pressure and penetration for targeted precision. No dragging. No pulling of the skin. A popular Dermapen Scar Treatment is for the treatment of Stretch Marks, both old and new. Both practitioners and patients have found Dermapen treatments to be more effective for stretch marks than any laser treatments. Dermapen Scarring Treatments may include: atrophic scars; including surgical, burn contracture, stretch marks/striae and post-acne scars.

PIGMENTATION LIGHTENING

Unlike some Laser treatments, Dermapen removes the risk of heat injury and hypo-pigmentation risks, whilst promoting optimised cell function. This makes it a suitable procedure for any patient affected by melasma and with a predisposition to hyperpigmentation. Treatment is also suitable on all Fitzpatrick Skin Types and ethnicities. Dermapen treatments have also been found to be effective on Hypo-pigmentation Vitiligo treatments. Clinically Dermapen treatments work in four ways to reverse the production of hyperpigmentation and melasma.
